Introduction

Here is a little bit of information about me and my writing projects. It's not much of a blog - it's more of a curriculum vitae, but it's not a very formal one. Questions and comments are welcome.

Thank you for looking.

Online Workshops

Edit Red (formerly known as Spoiled Ink) is a huge mix of writers. Many seem very young, but it's a friendly bunch. Forum topics often digress into chicken jokes and serious critiques are scarse, but, like I said, it's a friendly bunch . A plus is that you can have unlimited amounts of password protected uploads and you can sort them. It's a lazy person's way to back-up stories. I also email stories to myself sometimes, so I don't have to worry about losing them.

I'm a new member of Zoetrope's flash fiction studio. I've got lots of great help from people there. Critiques are private, so you don't see people reading previous critiques and then just saying "yeah, what he said."

Pam Casto runs a free email based workshop for stories under 1000 words.

Submission Tracking

I really like Duotrope. It keeps track of when, what, how, to whom. The statistics it tracks are probably not very accurate but fun to look at anyway, kind of like horoscopes. It has a theme calendar and a searchable database of publications. You can email if you see misinformation or if you would like them to add a publication.

Also, I've created my own excel spreadsheets for submission tracking. I wonder if a lot of people do this. I do love making spreadsheets. I'll make some for anyone who asks.

Triptych Quarterly Fiction

This is a zine I started up for showcasing linked short-shorts and flashes, serialized mini-stories, and the tiniest little novellas you've ever seen. I don't have as much time to invest in it as I would like, but I have high hopes for its development (and for increasing amounts of quality submissions).

The Quarterly Journal of Food and Car Poems

Suzanne Rebert and I edit this e-zine. It was inspired by Suzanne's Shakesperean Sonnet called How To Fry a Steak. She was inspired by a cooking show on tv. The poems are not necessarilly about food and cars, but the guidelines are very specific. Almost all the submissions we get are from people who completely disregard the guidelines.

Call for Stories about Girls and Cars

I'm not looking to exploit the stereotypical teenage boy's two main obsessions. This will be a collection of stories about women who love their cars, work on cars, or who drive a lot for either work or pleasure.

Stories should be fiction or memoir - no articles please. If you have written any such stories or are thinking about writing one, of if you've come across any published stories that I might want to ask the author about, please email silveramy77@yahoo.com or leave a comment. Thanks!
